An Urgent Call: Return Former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to Haiti

We are honoured to publish this full-page ad that appeared on Sunday 23 January in the Miami Herald, echoing the call of Haiti ’s grassroots movement for the return of President Aristide.

Signed by over 200 people (as many as could fit in the space), it demands that the United States, the United Nations and the Haitian government stop blocking President Aristide’s return to the land of his birth.

The UN forces came to police the 92% of Haitian voters who had elected President Aristide and protested about his overthrow by a US coup. They were never "heroes" – except to the elite "cocooned in luxury and indifference" who backed the coup (Heroes to zeros, 17 November 2010).
