Selma James, Global Women’s Strike, speaking at a demonstration in support of Mumia Abu-Jamal, US Embassy, London, 9 Nov 2010
Niki Adams of Legal Action for Women and I went to see Mumia some years ago. At that time when you came to visit with him, his hands were shackled. It took a visit by Archbishop Desmond Tutu who then complained to the prison (very polite is our Archbishop – more asked a question about the shackles than complain) before the prison authorities allowed Mumia, even when people visited him, to see visitors without his hands being shackled.
