Selma James, Global Women’s Strike, speaking at a demonstration in support of Mumia Abu-Jamal, US Embassy, London, 9 Nov 2010

Niki Adams of Legal Action for Women and I went to see Mumia some years ago.   At that time when you came to visit with him, his hands were shackled. It took a visit by Archbishop Desmond Tutu who then complained to the prison (very polite is our Archbishop – more asked a question about the shackles than complain) before the prison authorities allowed Mumia, even when people visited him, to see visitors without his hands being shackled.

Letters  The Guardian, Friday 19 November 2010

The UN forces came to police the 92% of Haitian voters who had elected President Aristide and protested about his overthrow by a US coup. They were never "heroes" – except to the elite "cocooned in luxury and indifference" who backed the coup (Heroes to zeros, 17 November 2010).
