Haiti, Iraq, Palestine, Occupation Is The Crime

Thursday January 15th, noon-1 pm, 300 N. Los Angeles Street (nr Temple)

The weekly Haiti Vigil is moving location from the Brazilian Consulate to the Downtown Federal Building, 300 N. Los Angeles Street (nr Temple) from noon-1 pm. We will be protesting the Israeli government’s bombardment, invasion and occupation of Gaza, as well as continuing our opposition to the UN military occupation of Haiti and our call for the safe return of Haitian human rights activist Lovinsky Pierre-Antoine who was disappeared in August 2007.

We are joining Black activists Hank Jones of the San Francisco 8, John Parker of the International Action Center, KPFK’s Dedon Kamathi, and Black student organizations and others who have come together to express outrage at the racist slaughter of Palestinian people in Gaza.

We support the joint call by the US Palestinian Community Network (USPCN) and the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN) to “raise our united voices of outrage and grief against 60 years of occupation and ethnic cleansing”. This includes the recent incursion into Gaza by Israel that has left close to 1000 Palestinians dead – mostly women and children -- more than 4,100 injured and 60,000 people displaced.

And we demand the safe return of Haitian Human Rights Activist Lovinsky Pierre-Antoine, an advocate of those with the least, especially single mothers and street children. He co-founded Fondasyon Trant Septanm (September 30th Foundation) for survivors of the 1991 and 2004 coups that removed Haiti’s democratically elected President, Jean Bertrand Aristide. Lovinsky was abducted after meeting with a US Human rights delegation the evening of August 12, 2007. Beloved father, community organizer and member of President Aristide’s Lavalas movement, Lovinsky represents the revolutionary courage and resilience of the Haitian people. Ending poverty and human rights abuses has been the heart of his work.
