As Venezuelans go to the polls to elect a new president, we will be remembering President Hugo Chavez, the extraordinary leader of the Bolivarian Revolution which changed Latin America and the world. Chavez was loved by millions of people, including many of us in London who had the honour to see him and hear him speak.

We invite you to join us to express our wholehearted support for the continuing Bolivarian Revolution.

The program will include:
- The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’, fantastic documentary of the 2002 US-backed coup and its defeat by a huge popular mobilization, spearheaded by women.
- Film clips from ‘Journey with the Revolution’, documentary of the Global Women’s Strike’s 2006 visit to Venezuela and from speeches by President Chavez from his funeral procession.

Followed by discussion.

Donations will be appreciated for those who can, no one turned away. We will make a donation from this event to the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund. President Chavez would have approved – he was the first Latin American president we know of to recognise Haiti’s huge contribution to ending slavery and to the liberation of the Americas from imperial rule, and he uniquely kept Venezuela out of the UN occupation which followed the 2004 coup against President Aristide. We also would like to make a contribution to the Eastside Cafe.

Looking forward to seeing you.
