British Members of Parliament support Lovinsky

EDM 456 DISAPPEARANCE OF LOVINSKY PIERRE-ANTOINE IN HAITI 03.12.2007

McDonnell, John

That this House notes that Lovinsky Pierre-Antoine, a much loved and respected human rights activist, has been missing in Haiti since 12th August when he was abducted after meeting a US human rights delegation; further notes that Lovinsky is co-founder of Fondasyon Trant Septanm, an organisation which does similar work to that of the renowned mothers of the disappeared in Central and South America, and is a leading advocate for poor people in Haiti, especially street children, teenage mothers and victims of torture; further acknowledges that his wife, children and extended family are suffering hardship and heartbreak since his disappearance; recognises that a fast and vigil are being held in London every Tuesday as part of an international movement for his safe return; and therefore urges the Government to use its influence to press the government of Haiti as well as the government of Brazil, which heads the UN forces which have taken responsibility for law and order in Haiti, and those of the US and Canada which play a key role in the region, to do all in their power, including providing resources, to secure the safe return of Lovinsky Pierre-Antoine.
