Enjoy the First US Showing of
Yellow Gate Women
These women were
victorious in a 19 year battle
against the US Military and their nuclear missiles.
It is a
quarter of a century since "Greenham Woman" became a topical
catchphrase synonymous with the militant feminism of the 1980s.
This film shows the reality behind the cliché, the arduous
day-to-day work carried out by a few dedicated women that has so
often been overlooked.
Margaretta D¹Arcy shot and assembled a wealth of video-footage
when staying at Greenham in the ¹80s and ¹90s, including her
dramatic night-scene vision
of the Cruise Missile convoy leaving the base on its exercise.
In 2006 D'Arcy travels with her son Finn Arden, and his camera, to
revisit the old sites, the camp, the town of Newbury, magistrates¹
courts and jail-gates, the vanished nuclear base on the common. She
talks to old companions and local residents -- she sums up the
spirit of
Yellow Gate Women as
she experienced it then and as she remembers it today.
Her film concludes with two celebrations, filmed in 2005 in the new
commemorative garden
that has been built on the historic campsite at the former US
Military Base.
