Wednesday 30 Dec we return to the continuing aftermath of Hurricane Katrina with our guest Sakura Kone, a human rights activist based in New Orleans.  Kone is the founder, producer and promoter of the Lower 9th Ward People's Festival    We'll touch on the impact of post-Katrina ethnic cleansing, toxic FEMA trailers and the campaign to save Wesley United Methodist Church which was built in 1844 voluntarily by those enslaved.  Join us for an eye opening and informative discussion with Sakura Kone.
 

Thursday 31 Dec  our show is all about film, specifically the images of Black women portrayed in the Golden Globe nominated film "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire,"  Comedian Cris Rock's documentary "Good Hair", "It's More Than a Game" and "Blind Side".

Join us for a rousing discussion with our panel: journalist and frequent Los Angeles Times Contributor Erin Aubry Kaplan; Asantewa Olantunji, General Manager and Director of Programming for the Pan African Film Festival; Gil Robertson, author and President and co-founder of The African American Film Critics Association, and Lynda Brewer, South LA resident who weighs in on the impact of stereotypes of economically disadvantaged Black women.


New Year’s Day, the last day of Kwanzaa, a Sojourner Truth special on the Ujaama Villages of Tanzania    The principles from the Ujaama villages were the basis of creating Kwanzaa an African American holiday    Our guests include some of the people who helped to build the Ujaama villages, specifically the Ruvuma Development Association of Tanzania, also a supporter of the present day Ruvuma Development Association and Selma James who has written about the great experiment of African Socialism, what can we learn from it and how and why it was destroyed.

Friday 25 Dec   from the Sojourner Truth archives, we return to the roots of African Indigenous practices and music, including the ritual use of the drum    We learn about honoring the ancestors and the keepers of African traditions throughout the Americas, and their role in pre-and post slavery rebellions    Hear about the Orisha, about Voodoo and Obeah, African traditional practices maligned by mainstream media and Hollywood.  And hear some great music from Filipe Villamil Garcia an initiated master Cuban drummer and others.
