Message from the Centro de Capacitacion para Trabajadoras del Hogar (CCTH),
Peru,
We are fighting a battle like the National Union of Domestic Employees, carrying out a big campaign for rights equal to other working class people -- a right that human rights treaties protect. Moreover, when the government claims that it respects individuals, it should respect the support that domestic workers provide: in services, in the transformation of raw food into meals, dirty houses into clean and tidy homes, stained clothes into clean and ironed clothes, uncared for children whom we look after with love, often playing the role of mother to those who are not our children. Therefore the work we do, supporting and transforming society, is global and is for the benefit of the whole of society.
We ask ourselves one question: if domestic workers held a global strike, at the same time and on the same date, what would happen to the families who cannot function without a domestic worker?
SO SINCE OUR WORK IS WORTH SO MUCH:
AS PART OF THE BOARD OF THE LATIN AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN CONFEDERATION OF DOMESTIC WORKERS (CONLACTRAHO), WE SHOW SOLIDARITY WITH THE SISTERS OF THE DOMESTIC WORKERS UNION OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO. YOUR FIGHT IS JUST AND IT IS URGENT THAT YOUR DEMANDS ARE MET. OUR CAMPAIGNS WILL BE STRONGER THROUGH OUR ORGANISATIONS IN ALL COUNTRIES.
IN SOLIDARITY PAULINA LUZA OCSA SECRETARY OF CONLACTRAHO
