Dear sisters and friends,
A resounding victory for President Chávez and the Bolivarian revolution in Venezuela!
No doubt you have followed the results of the presidential elections. The figures reported by most of the media were those published in the 1st bulletin of the CNE (National Electoral Council) based of nearly 80% of the count, which gave Chávez 61% of the vote.
But as the rest of the count has come in, Chávez´s vote has continued to go up. According to the 3rd bulletin released by the CNE, based on 95.24% of the count, Chávez won 7.161.637 votes (62,89%) and Rosales: 4.196.329 votes (36,85%). Voter turn out was the highest ever in a Venezuelan election (and very high for anywhere): 74.87%.
We have received many replies to our statement, especially from Venezuelans delighted with the results.
In his victory speech, President Chávez said it was now time to deepen the revolution and to attack corruption and bureaucratization. He also mentioned dealing with violence, including violence against women.
Viva Chávez! Viva the revolution! Viva women!
