Uganda Strike report 2004

The Strike call went out from Kaabong Women's Organisation - the group which, using the Strike, had already won free hospital care in 2003.  "Our major demand for this year's Strike is: we need accessible clean water.  it's all our suffering.  No war, no guns, and the government should stop the war which has been affecting especially children, women and all the communities in the whole of northern and eastern Uganda.  Many people have died, or been raped and abducted; thousands are internally displaced without essentials."  And they won again!  "The greatest success is our local government will construct 16 bore holes in our District.  We have been demanding water for a period of years.  One of our demands has been met. It was announced on 8 March during the speeches made by the officials.  Over 5000 people attended".
