Also at www.gencat.net/benestarNote: ALWAYS GO ACCOMPANIED TO INTERVIEWS , insist on the right to have a friend or relative present and ask them to take notes.Check that you have all the correct information by talking to or calling other people and/or organizations. Immigrant mothers and other immigrant women , despite carrying out the same work, are obliged to defend our right to these resources we have worked for both here and in our country of origin. Those of us without papers are denied any assistance because the government refuses to recognize our contribution and give us legal status.
In other EU countries each person applies for the benefits to which they are entitled – like unemployment benefit here – without having to go through recommendation and referral by a social worker. It is a scandal that here:
The time limits imposed for presenting documentation are very restrictive. Benefits are only awarded if there is enough money and places left in the budget. There is no guarantee the person affected will be informed of all the resources and benefits they may be entitled to. The tax discounts offered to those who earn enough to declare their income tax (Declaración de la Renta) ignores those most in need.
