News from our sisters in Peru
As part of International Women’s Day celebrations, CCTH, the domestic workers’ rights organization in Peru which has been campaigning for decades and co-ordinates the Global Women’s Strike there, has had a fantastic victory.
The government has declared the 30th of March National Day of Domestic Workers. The 30th of March was chosen by CCTH and other domestic workers’ organizations which they came together across Latin America and the Caribbean 19 years ago to form the CONLACTRAHO federation.
CCTH’s newly formed trade union, the Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadoras del Hogar del Perú, has also won official recognition. See their statement and the government decree below:

El Centro de Capacitación para Trabajadoras del Hogar, que también es coordinadora de la Huelga Mundial de Mujeres en Perú, ha logrado que se declare el 30 de Marzo como Día Nacional de las Trabajadoras del Hogar y que se reconozca oficialmente a su sindicato SINTRAHOGAR!
