Launch of international support for
Mexico’s Public Trial of Crimes
Against Humanity
Monday 23 July
House of Commons, Committee room 16
Chaired by John McDonnell MP
Speakers
from:
CODEP (Comité de Defensa de los Derechos del Pueblo)
APPO (Asamblea Popular de los Pueblos de Oaxaca)
Since May 2006 the state of
Oaxaca has been the scene of an extraordinary community-teacher movement
against fraudulently elected governor Ulises Ruiz and the repression he
unleashed. Teachers have been on strike and 1.5 million people (of a
population of 3.7 million, over 70% Indigenous) have marched to defend their
rights. Widespread human rights abuses, including assassinations,
disappearances, rape, torture, and arbitrary detention, have been reported
by several international organisations. Two more people were beaten to
death by police on 16 July and many were arrested...
Oaxaca:
Free David Venegas Reyes!
Please write to demand the release of David Venegas Reyes, a councillor of
