Follow up to the
community-teacher struggle in Oaxaca
Messages of support needed before 15 December
You may remember that in August a first Public Trial was held in Mexico city against Oaxaca governor Ulises Ruiz Ortiz and others responsible for crimes against humanity. The trial was very successful and thousands took part. It was decided to hold trials in different parts of the country, chosen to reflect particular struggles which, like the community-teacher movement in Oaxaca, face heavy repression. The 2nd trial was in Atenco where many women were raped while in police custody. The 3rd trial will be held on 15-16 December in Guadalajara, capital of Jalisco. The ex-governor of Jalisco was responsible for heavy repression against the anti-globalization movement in 2005 which was opposing industrial pollution. He is now Secretary of State. These are the demands of the trials:
l TO CONVICT AND PUNISH ALL TYRANTS
l IMMEDIATE AND UNCONDITIONAL RELEASE OF ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS
l THE DISAPPEARED TO BE RETURNED ALIVE
l IMMEDIATE WITHDRAWAL OF ALL ARREST WARRANTS AGAINST COMMUNITY ACTIVISTS
l COMPENSATION FOR THE FAMILIES OF OUR MURDERED SISTERS AND BROTHERS
International messages can be an effective protection against further repression.
