            SAKTI 2007 : THE POWER OF BEING WOMAN

The Global Women Strike India chapter cordially invites you to SAKTI 2007 : Power of being Woman, a state level initiative to bring together women of all classes and to ignite within the power that we all naturally have. SAKTI 2007 shall be participated by both urban and rural women of all age , all profession and we will discuss 10 most contemporary issues pertaining to local and global scenario concerning women.
The official theme of SAKTI 2007 is “ INVEST IN CARING , NOT KILLING”.
 
Objectives:
 
- To highlight the emerging problems that women face at various fronts.
- To proclaim the principles of Global Women Strike movement emphasizing the need of a caring economy .
- To critically look into various legal provisions protecting rights of women and ensuring social    development through women empowerment.
- To bring together the women from urban and rural backgrounds.
 
10 Issues that will be discussed:
 
1.    Recognition of House work done by women as National Economic Input.
2.    Equal Stake for Women in Society.
3.    Women Reservation in Elected Bodies .
4.    Safe Motherhood.
5.    Sexual Harassment at work place.
6.    Domestic Violence.
7.    Health and Life Style Counseling for Adolescent Girls.
8.    Female Feticide.
9.    Illegal Trafficking of Women and Slavery Issues.
10.  Social Minorities  such as Sex Workers, HIV Active women, Single Mothers
 
 Expected Outcome:
 
·         Better understanding on the current situation of Women Issues.
·         Recognition of contribution made by women at family and professional levels.
·         Media sensitization on the issue of Women Empowerment through GWS Campaign
·         Planning for SAKTI 2008.-      
·         Planning for SAKTI clusters in schools,colleges, offices, factories etc.
 

Participants:

 
Representatives from NGO’s, Dalit and Adivasi Women, Administration Professionals, Academicians, Advocates, Doctors, Students, Working Women, Domestic Workers, Men supporting the cause.
