Women's groups want protest bill scrapped
Ham&High, 21 January 2005, p.9.

Women's goups from Kentish Town have led calls for the governemnt to drop controversial laws threatening the right to protest.

The Parliamentary Square Community Anti-War Speak Out group and Legal Action for Women, both based at the Crossroads Women's Centre in Kentish Town Road, called on MPs to reject the law at a House of Commons meeting on Tuesday.

Kay Chapman, spokesman for the Parliamentary Square group, said: "It was a fantastic meeting with more than 100 people there, many of whom came from Camden.  We want all the money being spent on killing in Iraq to go into caring for people."

The group, which campaigns every week outside the Houses of Parliament, is calling for MPs to scupper the Serious Organised Crime and Police Bill, which would restrict public protests.
