Women of Colour - Global Women’s Strike Call 2002 Exciting news is pouring in from around the world as we plan for the 3rd Global Women Strike this Friday 8th March. We are writing to invite you to join us in actions and celebrations with women in many countries, including Aotearoa/New Zealand; Bolivia; Brazil; Colombia; the Democratic Republic of the Congo; El Salvador; Ecuador; Egypt, Ghana; India; Jordan; Korea; Kuwait; Macedonia; Mexico; Nigeria; Pakistan; Peru; Tanzania; Trinidad & Tobago; Uganda, Uruguay; Yemen.
You can take part in many other ways, wherever you are, or join the central London event. See attached and our Website for details.
The Strike brings together all women – rural and urban, Indigenous, tribal, immigrant and native, older and younger, of many faiths and no faith, but against all fundamentalism. It’s the best way we know to cross divides based on nationality, culture, skin colour, hair texture, occupation etc, and find out more about each other's work. And the best way to show that women are always the first to oppose war.
A Strike call from women at the Aymara Centre ‘Pacha Aru’ in Peru who are co-ordinating activities in indigenous Aymara and Quechua communities in the Andes, and working closely with the Domestic Workers Centre in Lima, speaks for many of us: “We Indigenous women need to be in touch with each other across national borders and continents, and with other women of colour. This is an opportunity for Indigenous women from all the movements of the world to unite . . . to highlight the situation of every one of us and demand the recognition and the resources we deserve.” All are welcome to join us at the central London event -- a Whistle-Stop Tour and Cacerolazo (pots and pans protest) with banners, costumes, drums, and brooms to "Sweep Out The Global Killers". Bring your pots and pans. Wheelchair users, children, cyclists welcome. Assemble: 12 noon, Shell Centre, Waterloo tube (St Thomas’ Hospital exit). Women of different faiths will bear witness at the Ministry of Defence. Members of the IMF & World Bank Wanted for Fraud Campaign will meet the march for the grand finale outside the World Bank office in Haymarket (New Zealand House, SW1). Don't miss it! Let us know what you plan to do, and send Striking statements for the Website. For more information about
