Stop the world and change it!

$800 billion a year is spent on military budgets worldwide.
$80 billion would provide the essentials of life - water, sanitation, basic
health, nutrition, education & a minimum income.

GLOBAL
WOMEN’S STRIKE
8 MARCH 2001
International Women’s Day

Strike for:
  • A WORLD WHICH VALUES ALL WOMEN’S WORK & ALL WOMEN’S LIVES,
  • AN END TO NO PAY, LOW PAY & TOO MUCH WORK
On International Women’s Day 2000. waged & unwaged women in 64 countries joined the first-ever Global Strike, called & coordinated by the International Wages for Housework Campaign.

On 8 March 2001, women & girls will strike again to demand that society INVESTS IN THE ENRICHMENT OF EVERYONE’S LIFE rather than in murder and destruction for the enrichment of a few.

'As a woman my country is the whole world'

WOMEN & GIRLS DO 2/3 OF THE WORLD’S WORK
FOR 5% OF THE INCOME.
2/3 OF THIS WORK IS UNWAGED.

People everywhere are demanding a total change of priorities. Women & girls do the work of giving birth to, feeding & caring for the whole world.  But this vital work of survival & community is devalued & those who do it are demeaned.

To overcome this sexism women are urged to compete with men & with each other. We end up overworked, low paid and divided - including by immigration controls which protect the worst wages & working conditions in most of the world. Corporations are claiming ownership of genes & seeds so the Global Market can further enslave & even replace us - threatening life & our planet.

A world which starts with people's needs, not corporate greed - without sexism, racism, ageism or ANY discrimination - must prioritise caring work, value the experience of those who do it, & insist on men & boys caring too.  While women must have the right to abortion, we must also be able to have the children we want, to breastfeed them if we choose, & to have time with them & with others we love & care for.

We have had enough of being told that we must accept the Global Market!
