The Dudley strikers go Global! 600 hospital ancillary workers at the Dudley Group of Hospitals in the Midlands mostly women, have been taking strike action in order to stay in the NHS, instead of having their work privatised under the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and are bringing their strike into the Global Womens Strike! They urgently need support from round the country and recently held a demonstration and lobby of Gisela Stuart (Health Minister) in Birmingham. The PFI would result in the loss of one hospital and 70 beds, being asked to work inflexible shifts instead of hours they can fit around their other caring job in their families, and the sacking of women who cant fit the requirements of the private employers. The strikers have a website - www.dghunison.org.uk - and are mobilising international support. Further information from their union office tel/fax 01348 244 350. |
