ENDORSEMENT REQUEST -- COMMUNITY DIALOGUE

Dear Friends,

We would like to request your endorsement of the upcoming event, A Community Dialogue: Speak Out Against War & For the Right to Welfare, which will launch in Los Angeles the Global Women's Strike 2003 and the Global Anti-War Petition "Invest in Caring Not Killing."  The event will be held on Saturday, December 7 from 12 to 4:00 pm at Crossroads Women's Center, 4167 S. Normandie Ave, LA.  We are asking endorsers to make a contribution, as well as to attend or send a representative to the event.  All endorsers will be listed and announced at the event.

The heart of the Community Dialogue will be a Speakout for mothers on welfare and other caregivers to voice their right to welfare and opposition to war, and to discuss how to get exemptions to mandatory welfare-to-work requirements and next steps in opposing welfare "reform" now more urgent, as the 5 year lifetime limit to receiving welfare benefits begins.  In Community Dialogues held in LA, Philly, and SF in 2001 grassroots women spilled the truth about the devastating sexist and racist impact of welfare reform on their lives.  We have compiled excerpts from those dialogues into a video, "Welfare Mothers Speak Out" which we will debut at this Community Dialogue.

The Dialogue is path-breaking in that it puts together the fight of mothers for resources for caring with the fight against resources going to war and killing, including: what caregivers are up against in the debate on welfare "reform" reauthorization; actions against the war against Iraq and in support of the "peaceful and democratic revolution" in Venezuela; how grassroots women in Africa are fighting for survival in the face of the threat of starvation of 14 million people including from a vicious attack on breastfeeding; a Global March originating in Brazil; the aim to have the global anti-war petition circulating in 100 countries by March 2003 and for women's right around the world to resources for caring work.

What better way to launch the Global Women's Strike 2003, grassroots women's response to globalization and militarization and whose theme is "Invest in Caring Not Killing", than with a Speakout against war and for our right to welfare and other benefits in the US and around the world.  Join welfare mothers, other caregivers and supporters opposed to the war in Iraq and to welfare "reform", to discuss what we can do together.  Let's work out how to put into practice our deep connections as people who want a total change of priorities.  All are welcome! Endorse now!
