15 minute anti-war stoppage In response to a call by the People’s Assembly 12 March for a 15 minute work stoppage at noon on Friday 14 March, half a dozen women poured out of Crossroads Women’s Centre in Kentish Town, North London and took over the High Road with placards, our anti-war "dolly" (a cardboard cut-out grey-haired woman breaking a missile in half), leaflets and a megaphone shouting out our determination to stop this war. Aside from a few hostile passers-by – all men – the response was fantastic! Cars honked, many shoppers stopped to listen and take leaflets, many people signalled their agreement, some women stopped to join the protest, and some gave a donation or said they would join our weekly picket outside Parliament, 5.30 – 6.30 every Wednesday. Many local anti-war groups are holding protests on Saturday afternoon, 15 March. |
